Conversational mode transforms your form into a modern, focused, one-question-at-a-time experience — similar to Typeform or Google Forms in single-question view. Instead of seeing all fields at once, visitors see a single question with a smooth animation between each one. This creates a premium, engaging feel that is especially effective for surveys, lead generation, and feedback collection.
The psychology behind conversational mode is simple: when someone sees only one question, they focus entirely on answering it well. There is no visual clutter, no scrolling, and no feeling of “this form is too long.” The result is higher completion rates and more thoughtful responses.
When to Use Conversational Mode
| Use case | Why conversational works well |
|---|---|
| Customer surveys | The focused format keeps respondents engaged and reduces drop-off |
| Lead generation | A conversational feel is less intimidating than a traditional form, increasing conversions |
| Feedback forms | One question at a time encourages more thoughtful, detailed answers |
| Quizzes and assessments | The step-by-step format feels natural for question-and-answer flows |
| Welcome or onboarding flows | A friendly, guided experience for new users |
| NPS (Net Promoter Score) surveys | The single-question format matches the NPS methodology perfectly |
How to Enable Conversational Mode
- Open your form in the builder (or create a new one with the fields you want).
- Click the Advanced settings tab above the builder.
- Find the Conversational Mode toggle and turn it on.
- Optionally, customize the color theme to match your brand.
- Click Save Form.
That is all — no other changes needed. Your existing fields are automatically presented one at a time.
What Visitors Experience
- The form takes over the full screen (or the full width of its container on the page).
- One field appears at a time with a smooth slide-up animation.
- A progress bar at the top shows how far they have progressed.
- Visitors press Enter or click the Next arrow to advance to the next question.
- The design is clean and modern with large text and ample spacing.
- On the final question, the button changes to Submit.
- After submission, a thank-you screen appears with your configured success message.
Conversational Mode vs. Multi-Step
| Feature | Conversational Mode | Multi-Step |
|---|---|---|
| Fields per screen | One | A group of fields (3-5) |
| Best for | Surveys, lead gen, short forms (5-15 fields) | Long forms with natural field groups (8-30 fields) |
| Visual style | Full-screen, modern, animated | Standard form with progress bar |
| Navigation | Enter key or arrow button | Next / Back buttons |
| Feel | Like a conversation or interview | Like a multi-page wizard |
| Mobile experience | Excellent — one field fills the screen naturally | Good — groups of fields scroll normally |
> Tip: Conversational mode works best with 5-15 fields. For very short forms (2-3 fields), a standard layout is faster because visitors can see and fill everything at once. For very long forms (20+ fields), multi-step with grouped fields is more practical because one question at a time for twenty questions feels slow.
> Good to know: Without PRO, conversational mode is not available. The form displays in the standard all-fields-on-one-page layout.
> Conditional logic: If a field is hidden by conditional logic, conversational mode removes that field from the active question flow. The Next button skips it, visible step badges are renumbered, and the progress counter counts only visible questions plus the submit step, so visitors do not land on blank screens or see gaps such as step 1 followed by step 3.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Using conversational mode for forms that need context between fields. If a visitor needs to see their answers to questions 1-3 to answer question 4, conversational mode hides that context.
- Enabling conversational mode on forms with too many fields. Twenty questions one at a time tests patience.
- Forgetting to test the Enter key behavior. Some visitors instinctively press Enter, which advances to the next question. Make sure this flow feels natural for your form.
